Care: keeping shoes alive in Indian weather

Suede in the monsoon, white knit on dusty roads, foam that packs down. How to make a pair last, and when to let it go.

Rotate

Foam needs a day to recover. Two pairs on alternate days outlast three pairs run into the ground.

Dry slowly

Wet shoes: pull the insole, stuff with newspaper, leave in shade. Never a heater, never the sun; glue and foam both give up.

Brush suede, do not wash it

A suede brush and a protector spray before the first wear. If it gets soaked, let it dry fully, then brush.

Clean knit gently

Soft brush, mild soap, cold water, air dry. No washing machine; the midsole separates.

Know when it is done

Running shoes are finished at roughly 600–800 km, or when the midsole creases stay. Walking shoes last longer; court shoes die at the outsole. Bring old pairs in and we will tell you.

A shoe that lasts twice as long is the best discount we can offer. Ask the team how to care for the material you are buying before you leave the store.
